2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Reception

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After several months of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having devoted the recent years producing and managing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in October 2024 together with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."

The game does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but fans can expect more updates as development continues.
